My New Obsession

Newest Obsession:

Photo Courtest of: jonesdesigncompany.com

This little Q&A a Day book. It's a journal that asks a serious, random, quirky, or fun question every day of the year. Not to mention, it leaves you space to answer for the next five years!! I can't wait to make the full circle and see the answers that we gave in years past. It'll be interesting to see how we change and grow.

G & I just purchased this little gem and have been answering questions for the past three days. So far, we've gotten "What comes to mind when you think of fear?", "This is utterly profound: ______", and last but not least "What advice would you give a second grader?".

It's not really the questions I look forward to, but more the time that we spend laughing and coming up with silly answers. Probably my favorite thing ever.

Catching Up....

I know, I know. I've got a lot of catching up to do. Life has been a tad bit crazy. Okay, not that crazy, but kind of? A few things to peak your interest:

  • I started handling two territories at work. Got a new position. Was only handling one territory (breath of fresh air even though I had no idea what I was doing in my new position). Two people on my team quit. I was immediately handling two territories again. Sigh. Such is life in Corporate America. My days are busy so when I get home, I'm mentally exhausted. I cook, we eat, and then we sleep. Literally. Hoping that will all change soon!
  • G and I have been obsessed with Downton Abbey, thanks to my good friend, Chelsea. Have you watched this glorious PBS Masterpiece Theatre show? Seriously. Better produced than most other shows. If you love Pride and Prejudice, I highly recommend watching the seasons of this on Netflix or Hulu Plus.
Obsessed.
  • My old man, G, turned another year older. Love that man so very much.
  • My best friend from high school got married. Love her too. It was an Aggie wedding, so I was a little out of place, but hey, I'd do anything for her. Pics coming soon.
  • We found a church in Frisco that we really like. Mercy Church. You should check them out. Seriously.
  • We randomly decided to sign a lease and move to Frisco? We were kind-of, sort-of contemplating it. Then we found an apartment. With a fenced backyard. And a garage. For cheap. So we thought, "Meh? Why not?". So alas, our house is halfway packed (aka a WRECK!), and we're in the process of moving. Have I mentioned that I hate moving??? G talked me into it... Fun.....
  • If you're in the market for something bright and cheery, check out this steal of a shower curtain from Anthropologie. I think it's lovely. And I may have purchased on for our now second bathroom yesterday. Feel free to come over anytime and Swoon.
  • A long time ago, I blogged about some New Mascara that I tried and absolutely loved. Turns out, that mascara is Katie Couric's favorite beauty product. Ever. That's how you know its a winner.
I really think that's all for now. All I can think of anyways.... More to come!

Progress

Remember that one post that I wrote ages ago about a bedroom-face lift?

Well we've been making progress. Slowly but surely. I apologize in advance for the poor iPhone pics.

Stage 1:
This awesome antique mantle that I found on Craig's list for only $20 came in pieces (as opposed to well over $100 for being all in one piece!). So, with a little elbow grease, my dad and Greg put it alllllll back together. The next step was to figure out how to hang this bad boy on the wall. That thing was HEAVY. It's solid wood, so Greg had to get creative with how to hang it. Good news, my hubby is a genius and figured out a way to let the studs in the wall hold it up because it probably weighs a good 20-30 pounds. So, once it was up, Stage 1 of the re-do was complete!

Stage 2:
Stage 2 entailed moving the Coffee Filter Wreath in from our living room. Obtaining some antique glass bottles from my mom and a local antique store, and redo-ing some cardboard letters to mimic the expensive brushed metal letters found at Anthro. To make the letters, I just bought 3-d carboard letters (found at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn Fabrics, and painted them with "Hammered Metal" Spray Paint (also found at Hobby Lobby). They don't look exactly the same as the Anthro letters, but I still think they look pretty darn awesome!

Stage 3:
Stage three entailed finally hanging our Anthro-letter inspired monogram in a re-vamped frame. I used an old frame that my mom had stored in the attic (and she so graciously gave me - FOR FREE!). I spray-painted the frame with a clearance bottle of off-white spray paint that I found at Hobby Lobby for a couple bucks. After the spray-paint had dried, I ran a piece of sand-paper over the frame to "antique" the frame and have the brown peeking-through on all the ridges and designs. It turned out better than I would have hoped and looks like I paid quite a bit of money for it! We hung the letters with 3M strips, which was super easy and obviously meant no more holes in the walls! In addition, I stocked up on white candles at Hobby Lobby this past week as they were all 50% off. Definitely the way to go to save lots of money!

What's Next???

Stage 4:
Adding some baby's breath (or dried baby's breath) to the bottles for some more height and texture elements.

Stage 5:
Using the leftover fabric from the curtains that my mom and I crafted to make some 18x18 Grey & White Chevron Throw pillows. Cannot wait for the patterned element that this will add to our bed.

Yes, I know that I'm mixing designs and styles in our bedroom, but isn't that what Anthro does? Modern with antique like things? I like to think so.. haha! Maybe I'm just fooling myself but I absolutely love the way that things have been turning out. Once all is said and done, be looking for the final before & after pics!!!

Our First Christmas

Merry Christmas from the Fosters!
Christmas this year was indeed a special treat! Not only was it our first Christmas together as a married couple, but we were able to spend time with both sides of the family. Such a joy!

Greg lead worship in two Christmas Eve services on Saturday night so we were able to spend Christmas Eve at my parents. The night was filled with some of my favorite things: Italian food prepared by my dad, delicious wine, a fire in the fireplace, and card games. I love Christmas Eve at the Roberts’ House. I literally talk about it being one of my favorite days and something that I look forward to year-round. Glad ol’ Gregory got to experience it with me this year!

We were able to have Christmas with my family on Chrismas Morning and then head to Cross Plains to be with the Fosters. It was a fun time of lounging, playing games, eating good food, and shooting guns, of course. What else would you naturally do in West Texas??

Armed and Dangerous.

Greg's Cousin Garrett

Some of our favorite gifts topping the charts:
Greg:

  1. A Banjo!
  2. A new pocket knife. Again, naturally a Texas thing.
  3. New Guitar case
  4. Gift cards to good restaurants (Uncle Julios!) and J. Crew
  5. A fun new guitar strap.
Too talented for his own good.

Keely:
  1. A Kitchenaid Mixer! Finally!
  2. A John Hart planner with the new initials
  3. New slippers (much needed!)
  4. A pretty new necklace with the new last initial.
  5. An owl canister from Anthropologie to complete the kitchen

Grateful for two families who love us and want to bless us!!
